Livingstone Hospital on East Hill in Dartford is where two of rock's most important figures entered the world. Mick Jagger was born here on 26 July 1943, and Keith Richards followed on 18 December the same year. The two future Rolling Stones grew up just streets apart and would meet as children at Wentworth Primary School.
The hospital
Livingstone Hospital has roots going back to the late 19th century. The pharmaceutical businessman Silas Burroughs of Burroughs Wellcome campaigned for a local hospital in Dartford and personally donated £1,000 to get the project started. Today it operates as Livingstone Community Hospital, a small NHS facility offering outpatient services.
Visiting today
The hospital is still open and sits on East Hill, a busy road running through Dartford. There is no plaque marking the Jagger or Richards connection. You can walk past the entrance, but it is a working medical facility — not a tourist attraction.

Dartford is the birthplace of The Rolling Stones in every sense. From here you can visit Dartford Station where Mick and Keith reunited in 1961.
