What happened here?

The bronze statue of Amy Winehouse at Camden Stables Market in north London was unveiled in September 2014, three years after her death, and has become the primary public memorial to one of the most gifted and commercially successful British musicians of the 2000s. Sculpted by Scott Eaton and commissioned by the Amy Winehouse Foundation — set up by her family following her death — the life-sized statue depicts her in full performance mode with microphone stand, beehive hair, and her characteristic pose. It stands in Stables Market, the part of the Camden market complex that extends along Chalk Farm Road, close to the venues and pubs that were her natural territory.

Amy Winehouse's two studio albums — Frank (2003) and Back to Black (2006) — established her as a genuine original: a jazz and soul singer of extraordinary technical ability and emotional directness, writing lyrics of confessional honesty and wit that were entirely unlike what mainstream pop was producing. Back to Black, produced by Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, won five Grammy Awards in 2008 — tying the all-time record for a British artist — and produced songs including 'Rehab', 'Valerie', and 'Love Is a Losing Game' that have entered the permanent vocabulary of British popular music.

The statue is freely accessible within Stables Market during market opening hours. Camden is reached easily by Northern line tube (Camden Town or Chalk Farm stations). The surrounding market and the nearby streets — including Dingwalls, the Electric Ballroom, the Jazz Café, and the Dublin Castle — form the Camden music ecosystem that shaped Winehouse's identity. A separate Amy Winehouse memorial exists at her childhood synagogue in Southgate, north London.
