Strata Motor Inn/Minskys Hotel - Bon Scott's last Australian performance

On 5 February 1979, Bon Scott took the stage for the last time on Australian soil. It wasn't a proper gig — it was an impromptu jam at a party held at the Strata Motor Inn in Cremorne, a hotel on Military Road overlooking Sydney Harbour.

The lineup that night was Angus Young on lead guitar, Malcolm Young on rhythm guitar, George Young on bass, Bon on vocals, and Ray Arnott on drums. They played rock 'n' roll standards for friends. Less than a year later, on 19 February 1980, Bon Scott was dead.

The Strata Motor Inn (also known historically as the Metropole Hotel) was a hotel and live music venue at 287 Military Road, Cremorne. It hosted rock and pub acts through the late '70s. The building still stands and now operates as Minskys Hotel, a bar and dining venue with live music on weekends.

Minskys Hotel is open to the public — you can walk in for a drink or a meal. There's no plaque or marker commemorating the AC/DC connection. The building has been renovated but the bones of the old motor inn are still there.

Sydney is full of AC/DC history. Across the harbour you'll find the Let There Be Rock church in Surry Hills, Albert Studios where Bon recorded with the band, Angus and Malcolm Young's childhood home in Burwood, and The Phoenician Club in Ultimo where AC/DC played in the early '70s.
