The Androy Hotel is where Bob Dylan — then Bobby Zimmerman — celebrated his Bar Mitzvah in 1954. Around 400 guests attended, including relatives from across the Iron Range.
Built in 1921 by the Oliver Iron Mining Company, the four-storey Renaissance Revival building at 502 E Howard Street was the social centre of Hibbing for over 50 years. It went bankrupt and closed in 1977, sat empty for 14 years, then reopened in 1994 as a mixed-use space.
The Androy is now an event venue and apartment building. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 and is a contributing property to the East Howard Street Commercial Historic District. It's the final stop — number 14 — on the official Bob Dylan Walking Tour.
The Androy sits right on Howard Street alongside other Dylan landmarks like the L&B Cafe and Braman Music. Walk the full 14-stop tour from the Hibbing Public Library, or visit the Zimmerman House where Dylan grew up.
