What happened here?

Wembley Stadium is the most iconic concert venue in British music history. The original stadium (1923-2003) hosted Live Aid in 1985, where Queen's 20-minute set became the greatest live performance in rock history; Freddie Mercury's tribute concert in 1992; and landmark shows by Michael Jackson, Madonna, the Rolling Stones, and Oasis. The new Wembley (opened 2007) has continued the tradition, hosting stadium tours by Adele, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and the Foo Fighters' Taylor Hawkins tribute concert in 2022.

Live Aid on July 13, 1985 remains Wembley's defining moment — 72,000 in the stadium and an estimated 1.9 billion watching on television worldwide. But Wembley's concert history stretches much further: the Stadium hosted rock shows from the early 1970s, with Elton John, Genesis, and Fleetwood Mac among the first to play. Playing Wembley became the benchmark of arena-level success in British music — if you could fill Wembley, you'd made it.

The current Wembley Stadium, with its distinctive arch visible across northwest London, seats 90,000 for concerts, making it the second-largest stadium in Europe. It is served by Wembley Park tube station on the Metropolitan and Jubilee lines. Stadium tours are available on non-event days. The surrounding area includes the SSE Arena (Wembley Arena) and Wembley Park, with restaurants and entertainment venues along Olympic Way.
