What happened here?

The four life-size bronze statues of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr were unveiled on December 4, 2015, at Liverpool's Pier Head waterfront, at the junction of Canada Boulevard and Brunswick Street, with the Three Graces -- the Royal Liver Building, the Cunard Building, and the Port of Liverpool Building -- rising behind them. The date marked the 50th anniversary of The Beatles' last concert in their hometown. Each figure stands more than seven feet tall and was sculpted by Andy Edwards. A notable detail: Lennon's right hand holds two acorns cast from originals collected near the Dakota apartment building in New York, a reference to the 'Acorn Events for Peace' he staged with Yoko Ono.

The statues were commissioned by the Cavern Club and gifted to the city of Liverpool. The Beatles formed in Liverpool in 1960 and are the best-selling music act in history, with estimated record sales of over 600 million. Their connection to the city has made Liverpool one of the world's foremost music tourism destinations, drawing visitors to the Cavern Club, Penny Lane, Strawberry Field, and their childhood homes.

The statues are freely accessible to the public 24 hours a day on the waterfront promenade and are consistently ranked among Liverpool's most-visited attractions. They stand with the iconic Liver Building providing an immediately recognisable backdrop. Guided Beatles tours of the city depart regularly from nearby, and the Mersey Ferries terminal is steps away.
