Get DirectionsDolores O'Riordan, lead singer of The Cranberries, was found dead in her room at the Park Lane Hotel on Piccadilly in Mayfair on January 15, 2018. She was 46 years old and had been in London to record a new version of 'Zombie' with the metal band Bad Wolves. The coroner's inquest concluded that her death was accidental — she had drowned in the bathtub following acute alcohol intoxication. The news devastated fans worldwide; O'Riordan was one of the most distinctive voices of the 1990s, and The Cranberries were among the era's most beloved bands.
O'Riordan had grown up in Ballybricken, County Limerick, Ireland, and joined The Cranberries at the age of eighteen. The band's debut album Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We? (1993) and its follow-up No Need to Argue (1994) — which contained 'Zombie,' a furious response to IRA bombings in England — made them one of the biggest bands in the world. O'Riordan's keening, vibrato-heavy voice was immediately recognisable, and 'Zombie,' 'Linger,' 'Ode to My Family,' and 'Dreams' remain among the most played songs of the decade.
The Park Lane Hotel is a luxury hotel in Mayfair, overlooking Green Park. It remains operational. O'Riordan is buried in Limerick, Ireland, and a memorial garden in her hometown of Ballybricken has been created in her honour. The Cranberries released their final album, In the End, posthumously in 2019, featuring O'Riordan's recorded vocals.
