What happened here?

OK Go's music video for 'Here It Goes Again' (2006) — the treadmill video — was filmed in a single unbroken take in the band's backyard in Los Angeles and became one of the first viral music videos of the YouTube era. The four band members perform an elaborately choreographed routine on eight moving treadmills, stepping, jumping, and sliding between machines in perfect synchronisation. Choreographed by the band's sister Trish Sie, the routine took months of practice and reportedly 17 takes to complete successfully.

The video was uploaded to YouTube on July 31, 2006, and accumulated millions of views within weeks — at a time when viral video distribution was still a new phenomenon. Its success demonstrated that a clever idea executed with commitment could compete with and surpass the impact of high-budget productions, and it helped establish YouTube as a viable platform for music video distribution. The video won the Grammy for Best Short Form Music Video in 2007.

OK Go went on to make increasingly elaborate one-take videos — including 'This Too Shall Pass' (Rube Goldberg machine), 'Needing/Getting' (car playing musical instruments), and 'The One Moment' (filmed in 4.2 seconds) — establishing themselves as the most innovative music video artists of the internet era. The treadmill video remains their most famous work and a landmark in the transition of music video from television to online distribution.
