Compton today is a city of approximately 95,000 people in Los Angeles County, still predominantly Black and Latino, that has seen significant economic development since the late 1980s while maintaining the character of a working-class community. The city has increasingly embraced its musical legacy: murals of NWA members appear in the city centre, and Dr. Dre in particular has maintained philanthropic ties to Compton through donations to the school district and other local institutions.
