Get DirectionsLoretta Lynn's Ranch at Hurricane Mills, Tennessee — a working cattle ranch and tourist destination she purchased in 1966 — became her home and a pilgrimage site for country music fans over five decades. The property encompasses over 3,500 acres and includes a replica of her Butcher Hollow birthplace cabin, a museum, an antebellum plantation home that served as her residence, campgrounds, and a motocross facility. Lynn lived here until her death on October 4, 2022, at the age of 90, and is buried on the property.
Hurricane Mills was a virtually abandoned mill town when Lynn bought it; she and Doolittle gradually restored the buildings and opened the property to the public, creating one of country music's most unusual heritage sites — a working farm that was also a living monument to a career. The ranch hosted concerts, fan conventions, and the Loretta Lynn Motocross championships (Lynn was an unlikely motocross enthusiast and sponsor). Jack White recorded the acclaimed Van Lear Rose album with Lynn at the ranch in 2004, winning two Grammy Awards.
Loretta Lynn's Ranch is located on Highway 13 in Humphreys County, about 65 miles west of Nashville. It is open to visitors and offers museum tours, campground facilities, and access to the property. Lynn's grave on the grounds is a significant pilgrimage point. The Jack White connection — Van Lear Rose was recorded in the plantation home — adds a contemporary chapter to the ranch's long history.
