Birthplace

Richard Wayne Penniman — Little Richard — was born in this shotgun house on 5 December 1932. He was the third of twelve children. The house originally stood at 1540 Fifth Avenue in Macon's Pleasant Hill neighbourhood. In 2017 it was moved to its current location at 416 Craft Street to prevent its demolition during the expansion of Interstate 75/16.

Visiting Today

The house opened as a museum and resource centre in 2019. The small yellow shotgun house has been preserved and features community events, concerts, historic walking tours, and a public piano.
