Lemmy Kilmister's Grave — Forest Lawn Memorial Park

Ian Fraser 'Lemmy' Kilmister, founder and bassist-vocalist of Motörhead, is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California. Lemmy died on 28 December 2015 at his apartment in West Hollywood, just four days after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. He was 70 years old. A memorial service was held on 9 January 2016 at the Whisky a Go Go on the Sunset Strip — the club where Motörhead and Lemmy himself had spent so many years performing — and was streamed live for fans worldwide. He was cremated and his ashes were buried at Forest Lawn.

Lemmy was one of rock music's defining figures: bassist with Hawkwind in the early 1970s, then founder of Motörhead in 1975, a band he ran for four decades with almost no concessions to commercial pressure or changing fashion. His musical approach — impossibly loud, rhythm-driven heavy rock played at breakneck speed — influenced thrash metal, punk, and countless other forms of aggressive music. He lived in West Hollywood for the last two decades of his life, a fixture of the Rainbow Bar and Grill on the Sunset Strip, where he could be found most evenings playing video poker and drinking Jack Daniel's and Coke.

Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale is one of the most famous cemeteries in the United States, the final resting place of numerous Hollywood and music industry figures. Lemmy's grave marker has become a fan pilgrimage site and is typically adorned with mementos, guitar picks, and tributes. Forest Lawn is open daily and admission is free. The Whisky a Go Go, where his memorial was held, is approximately a 15-minute drive on Sunset Boulevard.
