Get DirectionsThe Lead Belly Museum opened in February 2026 inside the Marshall Texas Depot, offering the most focused tribute to Huddie Ledbetter's Texas legacy ever created. The dedicated museum room includes a detailed timeline of his life, documentation of the artists he influenced, a statue, and historical artifacts. It highlights his East Texas roots and connection to the boogie woogie tradition.
The museum is managed with the blessing of Lead Belly's family. Terika Dean and Alvin Singh, his great-great niece and great-great nephew, serve as co-managers of his estate and travelled from Nashville to the opening. Alan Loudermilk serves as museum curator.
The Lead Belly Museum is open Wednesday through Friday from 10am to 3pm, and Sundays from 11am. It's housed inside the Marshall Texas Depot in Marshall, Texas. The museum is part of a wider Lead Belly trail that stretches across East Texas and northwest Louisiana, including his grave at Shiloh Baptist Church near Mooringsport and a statue in downtown Shreveport.
