Lead Belly Historical Marker

A historic marker near the shore of Caddo Lake in Oil City honours Huddie "Lead Belly" Ledbetter. Before he became a music legend, Lead Belly worked in the oil fields around Oil City and had family in the area for many years. He was born nearby on the Jeter Plantation outside Mooringsport and grew up in the poverty and violence of rural northwest Louisiana.

The marker is located near the shore of Caddo Lake in Oil City, Louisiana. Lead Belly's grave at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery and the statue in downtown Shreveport are both within driving distance for a Lead Belly trail through northwest Louisiana.
