What happened here?

The apartment

Kurt Cobain lived in this duplex at 114 Pear St NE in Olympia from 1989 to 1991. He first moved into Apartment 2 on the left side with his girlfriend Tracy Marander. He later moved to the rear apartment, where he lived with Dave Grohl in 1990–1991. The building dates from around 1914 and is a triplex — two apartments facing the street, one in the back.

Cobain reportedly wrote around 75% of his total output here, including "About a Girl," which was written about Tracy. The phrase "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was spray-painted on the apartment wall by Kathleen Hanna of Bikini Kill.
