What happened here?

The Hatfield-McCoy Feud Driving Tour is a self-guided historic driving tour that begins in Pike County, Kentucky, and extends across the Tug Fork into Mingo County, West Virginia. The tour explores the origins, key sites, and resolution of America’s most famous family feud, which raged from the 1860s through the 1890s along the Kentucky-West Virginia border.

The tour sits at the southern end of the U.S. 23 Country Music Highway corridor. The same Appalachian mountain culture that produced the feud also produced a remarkable number of country music artists — the isolation, family bonds, and hardscrabble life of the region are threads that run through both the feud’s history and the music that came out of these hollows. Nearby artists include Patty Loveless and Dwight Yoakam from the Pikeville area.
