The Church from Rock's Most Epic Music Video
Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA

Get DirectionsThe "November Rain" music video — nine minutes of orchestral rock excess directed by Andy Morahan — was filmed in part at a small church in Las Cruces, New Mexico, in 1992. The video features Axl Rose marrying Stephanie Seymour in the church before the ceremony descends into rain-soaked chaos. It became one of the most expensive and ambitious music videos ever made, and remains one of the most viewed videos of all time on YouTube with over two billion views.
The production took over the church and surrounding area for the wedding and funeral sequences. Slash's iconic solo — played in the desert while stepping out of the church doors — was filmed here and at nearby desert locations. The video's narrative of love, loss, and destruction mirrored the turmoil within the band at the time, as Guns N' Roses were at the peak of their fame and already beginning to fracture. The Use Your Illusion era was the band's most grandiose and most unstable.
The church in Las Cruces is still standing and recognisable from the video. It is a working church and not a tourist attraction, so visitors should be respectful. Las Cruces sits in southern New Mexico near the Mexican border, surrounded by the desert landscape that provided the backdrop for Slash's solo. For GN'R fans, it is a pilgrimage — a small, unassuming building that became the setting for one of rock's most cinematic moments.
