What happened here?

A life-size bronze statue of Bon Scott stands at the Fishing Boat Harbour in Fremantle, Western Australia, unveiled on February 24, 2008 — the anniversary of Scott's death. The statue, sculpted by Greg James, depicts the AC/DC frontman in his iconic rock stance, and has become one of Fremantle's most photographed landmarks. Scott grew up in Fremantle after his family emigrated from Kirriemuir, Scotland in 1956, and the port city shaped his larrikin personality and raw musical sensibility.

Bon Scott's years in Fremantle were formative — he joined his first bands here, got into frequent trouble with the law, and developed the hard-living, charismatic persona that would make him one of rock's greatest frontmen. He joined AC/DC in 1974 and fronted the band through their classic period, including 'Highway to Hell,' 'Let There Be Rock,' and 'Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.' His death from acute alcohol poisoning in London on February 19, 1980, at age 33, remains one of rock's great tragedies.

The statue stands in a prominent position at Fishing Boat Harbour, a popular waterfront dining and entertainment precinct in Fremantle. It is freely accessible and regularly adorned with flowers, guitar picks, and fan tributes. Fremantle is about 20km southwest of Perth CBD, accessible by train. Other Bon Scott landmarks in the area include Fremantle Cemetery (where a memorial plaque was installed) and various pubs where he performed in his early bands.
