Aliso Beach — Taylor Hawkins Memorial Drum Circle, Laguna Beach

On March 31, 2022, just days after Taylor Hawkins's sudden death in Bogotá, hundreds of mourners gathered at Aliso Beach Park in Laguna Beach for a spontaneous drum circle memorial. Organised by local radio station KX FM, drummers and musicians played around a bonfire on the sand while fans wrote messages and left tributes. The beach was reportedly one of Hawkins's favourite surfing spots, making it a deeply personal gathering place.

Hawkins grew up in Laguna Beach and remained connected to the tight-knit Southern California coastal community throughout his career. Before joining the Foo Fighters in 1997, he was a fixture of the local music scene. The community's outpouring of grief reflected just how beloved he was in his hometown, not just as a rock star but as a neighbour and friend.

Aliso Beach Park remains a popular public beach in south Laguna Beach, accessible from South Coast Highway. While there is no permanent memorial marker for Hawkins at the site, the beach continues to hold significance for fans and locals who remember the emotional drum circle tribute. The park offers picnic areas, tide pools, and the same waves Hawkins loved to surf.
